How to run a quarterly content strategy review for an advice firm

A quarterly review should decide what deserves another cycle, not become a retrospective list of everything the team published.

Quarterly review creates a useful bridge between annual direction and day-to-day production. It gives the firm enough evidence to change course without rewriting the strategy every month.

Review five decisions

  1. Audience

Did the intended people recognise the situations and language?

  2. Opportunity

Did the selected conversation create useful engagement or commercial signals?

  3. Campaign

Which asset did the most work in the journey?

  4. Operations

Where did ownership, evidence or review slow progress?

  5. Next quarter

What should repeat, change or stop?

Bring the right evidence

  • Planned versus completed assets.
  • Audience and relationship signals.
  • Qualified conversations or introductions influenced by content.
  • Repeated themes, angles and calls to action.
  • Underused expertise and channel gaps.
  • Source expiries and review bottlenecks.

Use a short decision agenda

Keep the meeting focused on decisions the next campaign owner can act on. Share the evidence in advance and use the session to interpret it, rather than reading performance tables together.

  1. Ten minutes

Confirm the audience and objective the quarter was meant to serve.

  2. Twenty minutes

Review commercial, audience and operational signals together.

  3. Twenty minutes

Choose what should repeat, change or stop.

  4. Ten minutes

Name the next campaign, owner, first decision and review date.

Leave with one priority

The review should end with a chosen audience, commercial objective, anchor campaign and owner for the next quarter. A long list of possible topics is not a strategy decision.
